Grove

Zoe's fever had me holding vigil at her every move yesterday and B.J. called it a day after installing a water heater. That meant that Thursday date night (that usually consists of watching The Office and eating pizza) turned into date day! Once Motrin cracked her fever, we were off.

We had a business errand to run in South Salt Lake, while we were out that way I optimistically recommended we stop at Grove's Market for lunch, fearing that B.J. would protest, but he didn’t!  And I think he was reminded that good places DO exist away from the West side. I think a craving inspired me to make the drive once during my pregnancy, but otherwise it had been way. too. long. This 50’s era market (not 50's inspired or mock -- thank God) on the corner has always made me feel so, so happy. Also, their sandwiches are enormous and unrivaled in scrumptiousness.  Pictured above is their immaculate variety of hot sauces.  Some with pretty funny names, one's I don't feel comfortable repeating to you, blog.

Trying to give Zoe a bite.  She's decided she's a vegetarian, though.

B.J.'s weird pastrami or salami thing.  He eats his sandwiches upside down, too. :)
The deli guy must have sensed the delicate woman that I am and sliced my half-sandwich in half.  Tomato Avocado heaven!  This is definitely not a first date food.  Nothing sexy about avocado slipping out of the bread and up your nose with every bite...or is there?

BJ insisted she stop dancing around that...pole...

Then we went for a walk down Grove Ave. to settle our bursting stomachs.

Okay, last post for awhile I promise.  I have to blog iPhone pictures onto the internet because I have this phobia that my phone is going to die forever and my computer will suddenly collapse and all my pictures will be gone.

Later we went to Murray park, it was fun and lush and peaceful as well, but I don't feel like writing about it.

Click to enlarge. They get prettier when they are bigger.

B.J. and I bought a new camera yesterday on a sort of premeditated whim.  It's a pretty monumental time in my life, I've wanted this camera for years.  Now that I actually have it, I feel bashful. I don't quite know what to do with it, how to press the right buttons, to extract the world of qualities it contains.  I'll learn, though.  Watch. In the meantime, I took some shots around the house on mostly auto yesterday and what turned out even on simple auto pleased me, so I thought I’d share.
Bedside.
Halloween decoration that has become a permanent fixture in the office closet.  It has the body of a moth and it is vile.
Her teething (we presume? no other symptoms) fever persists.  Day 2. Look at those flushed little cheekies!*
Zoe's magnets.  Incredibly only two are missing.  One, I understand, got sucked up in Aaron's vacuum.
Money tree.  The only potted plant that has survived us for nearly three years.
Baby cilantro growing up on the kitchen window ledge.
These two photos are from the mini-garden B.J. planted for me a couple weeks ago. :)
I have the prettiest of lab rats/models for testing this device out.  Go me.
I love how chubby she is in this picture.
This one is a little blurry, I think I snapped it before it had time to focus due to excitement  that I, for a commemorative instant, accomplished the feat of getting her to look at mama! look at the camera!
Faithful tulips that spring up in backyard every year.  The only evidence that exists that testifies the former inhabitants of our home did something more than eat Hershey Kisses and set out rat poisoning.  Check out the grass BJ planted!  The patchwork is finally mingling for the bigger picture.
Skeleton leaf.
Zoe's hair.  Pictured in the background are her favorite shoes.  (Pink Jellie sandals)
Rapattoni Lion dude.

*Zoe finally offered me a brief glimpse into the covert workshop of her mouth (eff, she's so offended if you touch her mouth or try to look in it) She is teething four, possibly six teeth. On top: her left and right first molars. It appears as though her canines may also be coming in, but they seem a little far back so it may just be an extra ridge of the molars poking through. On bottom: her left and right lower lateral incisors are currently tearing through her gums. She’s had a fever up to 103.1 for the past 48 hours. Up until now, she has teethed gracefully – teeth furtively appearing in without much ado. She is clearly suffering right now and it crushes my soul. The last couple nights I’ve been up and down, rocking her blazing little head against my chest, all through the night.

I hadn't previously believed that teething could cause a fever this high. I’m confused by the adamant attitudes from any source of information about whether teething causes fevers or not, but there's not much else this could be.  She has no other symptoms, and once the Motrin kicks in she is her regular self.
If it doesn't let up by tomorrow, we will get it checked at the doctor to rule out a UTI or ear infection.

B.J.'S Birthday. The party people show up for.

I love these two together!  They were going at the pasta salad, fistfulls.
B.J. got himself a Birthday mohawk.  It was sexy while it lasted.  He had to shave it off a few hours later for work.
One of the thirty times she went down the slide.
Playing Bocce ball.  Or, as Zoe excitedly calls it, "Bah-Ball, bah-ball"

Mimi spinning Zoe
Bedtime snack grilled cheese I made for BJ.  It looked so tempting, but I resisted knowing that Biggest Loser weigh in was the following day.
I lost 1.5 pounds!

Zoe and I gave him:
German chocolate cupcakes
Gift card to Bohemian strictly to be used on a guy's night
New socks (what? it was an emergency.  hate me.)
Badminton stuff for when the grass fills in the backyard
Frolf frisbees
A homemade card with Zoes feetsies imprinted

Happy 28th to my old man.  :)

Another weekend, another blog post about Zoe.

And my baby, she teaches me how to just be in my skin, to do less and be more.

I whipped up some finger-paints on Friday night and felt pretty satisfied with the way they turned out. Somewhat gelatinous, I'll tweak the recipe next time. My DIY ambition has legitimately been applied.

BJ decorated her back with butterfly wings. Her back that is suddenly revealing spinal bones. My once hunk of babe is morphing into a formed little girl. She was less than thrilled about the body paint.

We, however, were completely.

An evening with SLC

I've always loved the old, creepy swimming area of the seedy motel next to Red Iguana.  A few years ago, after a few margaritas, I snuck in, stripped down to my underwear, and jumped into the pool as B.J. stood at the ledge shaking his head.  Something I might not concieve of doing this day.
Blinded by the light.
I have unplaced nostalgia looking at that RCA sign.
I'm like a country girl in the city everytime I go downtown now.  Taken by the little things like ginormous buildings.

Gateway.
Mr. Sexton.

Part of his jam band.
I think I like my iPhone camera better than the Canon.

We splurged and bought the natural onesie for Zoebot. :)
